Kowhaiwhai Patterns

 

 

Kowhaiwhai patterns are generally known as painted scroll paintings on the rafters of meeting houses. They represent ngā hihi - pure energy. This energy expresses itself in nature as vibration, movement and radiation.

There are as many as 190 native New Zealand Fern species with the most iconic of all being the silver fern - a symbol of national pride for New Zealand . Symbolising healing and growth.

 

Ngangara / Native New Zealand Lizard

There are various illustrations of lizards in Māori carving and in Māori mythological history. To some people the appearance of a lizard is a sign of good or bad luck depending on the situation. They are often portrayed as Kaitiaki - guardians who protect people from destructive energy and forces.
