Māori arts and Māori graphic design are so closely intertwined that they seem inseparable. But what makes Māori graphic design stand on its own merits is that it is electronic in nature being so versatile it goes beyond all boundaries of creative and artistic expression where digital imagery is concerned. It can also be easily applied to all media and is not reliant on physical objects such as wood or stone.

From Digital to Artwork

I once asked a Māori carver what his thoughts were regarding the use of a computer to create Māori designs. His reply was that it was a tool for people who cheat, nevertheless he was still fascinated with what a computer could do. I then explained to him that the computer could be used to re-create his art in any shape and scale to the exact measurements.

It could be used to change certain elements such as colour shade and form at a click of a button then the image could be printed in colour or emailed anywhere in the world. Therefore a client has the ability to see the artwork before it begins. See the following example.
